Jalen Mickens earns Earl Campbell Award Honorable Mention for Week One Performance

Protection United’s Jalen Mickens was named a Week One Honorable Mention for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award following his performance against the Northwestern State Demons on Saturday. 

The sensational sophomore receiver lit up the Demon defense for three catches, one touchdown, two carries, and 31 rushing yards, to go along with a team-leading 133 receiving yards during Louisiana Tech’s 80-6 win. Mickens’ production emphasized the revamped offensive structure for the Bulldogs under new offensive playcaller Nathan Young.

For his production on the field, Mickens was nominated for the Earl Campbell Awards’ player of the week. The weekly award is intended to highlight the nation’s best offensive player through their stats and overall contributions to their team’s performance. 

Although SMU’s Kevin Jennings was ultimately chosen to receive the Week One POTW, Mickens kept his head held high and showed gratitude for the selection through his social media channels. 

Mickens’ achievement solidified the positive energy in the locker room after the opening game victory. Adding to the celebration for the Bulldog program, quarterback Blake Baker was also named an Honorable Mention for the Week One POTW for his 232-yard and three-touchdown performance. 

The dominant receiver and quarterback combination set the stat sheet on fire, and they were both noticed on the national stage for their achievements. A tidal wave of scoring looks to build even taller as the season moves on for the LA Tech program.
